Celebrating a newly minted PhD! Drs. Virginia Solis Zuiker (left) and Jean Bauer (right) congratulate Mary Jo Bartels.  “Jean and I were co advisors for Mary Jo,” says Dr. Zuiker. “Mary Jo was my first Ph.D. advisee and she is now the Family Resiliency Program Leader in UMN Extension. Mary Jo also worked as a graduate assistant for Jean’s Rural Families Speak project and she worked on my Hispanic self-employment project.”

Carolyn Tubbs, Paul Rosenblatt, and Hal Grotevant were awarded a Bush Diversity Grant to support this initiative. The goal was to link diversity to all areas.

The Family Social Science M.Ed. degree program prepares students to design, deliver, and evaluate family-focused programs for adult learners and gives them the opportunity to prepare to earn a license to lead Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) programs. The fall introductory orientation and spring commencement ceremonies are the only in-person meetings for this fully online program.

FSOS has been collaborating with scholars in Iceland to bring parent-education to that country. They have made several visits to Minnesota to work with both U of M and Minneapolis School District parent educators to hone their skills. CEHD Connect magazine had this story detailing the origins of the partnership.
