Welcome to the Learning Informatics Lab (LIL) where we connect learning, data, and insights to shape a better future for all learners.

The Learning Informatics Lab (LIL) at the University of Minnesota brings together researchers, educators, and students to explore how data, AI, and learning sciences can support meaningful, equitable learning. Grounded in theory and driven by innovative design, LIL develops and studies technologies that enhance learning. LIL also spearheads ELAI@MN, a university-wide initiative focused on critically examining and collaboratively shaping the role of AI in education. Together LIL and ELAI foster dialogue, research, and community partnerships that center educational values, learner agency, and the future of teaching and learning in an AI-enabled world.

Our Core Focus

LIL focuses on learning analytics, educational AI, cognition, AI ethics, and human centered design.
