HERO Study

Health’s Early Roots & Origins Research Study

The HERO Study is currently inviting parents with young children ages 4 months to 5 years to participate in a research study, through a partnership between the JPB Research Network on Toxic Stress, Harvard University, and Dr. Megan Gunnar’s research team at the University of Minnesota.

Why are we doing this study:
The way our bodies react to stress when we’re very young can affect our health for the rest of our lives – and this can vary from person to person. The goal of this research project is to learn more about how different children respond to stress and how to best measure stress in children.

What we would ask you to do:

  • Complete a questionnaire about life stress & supports.
  • Allow us to collect growth measurements and small samples of your child’s saliva, cheek swab, and hair. These will be used to inform researchers about a child’s experience of stress.
  • Children ages 2 1/2 – 5 years will be asked to play a brief attention game on an iPad.
  • This study will take approximately 35-30 minutes.

What we would pay you:
You would receive a $40 gift card and a University of Minnesota string backpack for participating in this study.
