The faculty embedded practicum team has been an extremely useful intervention system for our HES staff and students.  By building a culture of mutual respect and shared leadership between and among the HES staff and the faculty embedded practicum team, both groups benefited.  This is an extremely effective way for graduate students to access real world experiences and for a high needs school to access additional resources, interventions, and specialists in a tiered intervention model.”

“During the 2016-17 school year, we had an opportunity to work the UMN faculty-embedded school psychology team at one of our Pre-k-8 buildings. It was because of the significant shortage of school psychologists in Minnesota and other parts of the country, we were not able to cover the building for school psychological services after the winter break. To speak the least, it was a difficult situation. Furthermore, the school serves a large number of students who need significant supports in academics, social emotional learning, and ESL services. Nonetheless, Dr. Annie Hansen-Burke and her team of graduate students came onboard and provided the much needed structure and support to meet the due process requirements of the building. Furthermore, they helped the building’s tiered intervention process. It was a win-win situation that the school psychology team provided the support we need and through this collaborative effort the school psychology graduate students received another ‘real-life’ experience beyond classrooms.”
