Transforming social work & fostering relationships through Anishinaabe-centered child welfare knowledge and practice

The dramatic overrepresentation of Indigenous families in North American public child welfare systems is one of the most pressing issues facing sovereign tribal nations, child welfare policymakers, and practitioners today. We will describe an ethnographic study with the Center for Regional and Tribal Child Welfare Studies that highlights Anishinaabe centered child welfare education and training to build tribal capacity, educate social workers to practice with Indigenous families and tribes, and to promote systems change.
